Extended Day Care Opening Letter

August 1, 2007

Dear Parents,

Welcome to St. Nicholas Academy Extended Day Care Program.  Thank you for entrusting us with your children before and after school as we start our first year at the new “SNA.”

Our program has one main goal, and that is to provide quality care for our students in a safe and happy environment.  A strong supportive staff will enable many positive and nurturing activities to take shape throughout the school year.  If, at any time you have any questions or need to share information about your child, don’t hesitate to call.

Thank you for your support and patience as we begin our program. With the enthusiasm and prayers from our Christian community, we will succeed in accomplishing our goals for your children.

Sincerely,

Beverly A. Pierani, Director
Carolee Braun, Assistant Director
E.D. Office:       686-2728
School Office:    686-2727
E-mail:              bpierani@stnacademy.org

Please keep in mind the fees are of the utmost importance to the E.D. Program.  We are not funded by St. Nicholas Academy and must remain completely self -supporting.

ü      Payment will be considered late on Friday at 6:00 P.M, regardless of any excuse.  Checks will be cashed Monday morning.  Late fees will not have to be enforced because the child will not be able to return. (Salaries have to be paid)

ü      Please do not ask to make an exception for you when it can’t be done for anyone else, nor ask to hold your check until a later date.

Late Fees:

·        Returned check fee of $25.00 (cash only after 1st insufficient check.)

·        Late pick-up fee of $10.00 for every 5 minutes after 6:00 P.M due the next day.

·        Please understand we need to emphasize this rule adamantly because we all have families to get home to.  If you see that you are going to run past 6:00 PM, please make arrangements for someone to pick up your child.  Two employees have to be paid extra to stay if you run late.

·        Parents need to have a buddy system with another parent in E.D. for emergencies.

·        Late payment fee of $10.00 per day will occur starting Friday at 6:00 P.M.

Discipline:

·        In order to ensure the safety of our children, we must enforce the St. Nicholas Academy code of discipline during our hours.

·        Time out chairs

·        Conference with parents after repeated warnings.

·        Suspension from E.D. for excessive bad behavior, such as: physical contact, hitting, kicking, spitting, biting, etc. (payment still required)

·        Expulsion with no return policy.

·        Parents, please control siblings or other children you may have with you when picking up your children at E.D.  There have been many instances of children jumping off tables and benches, running through the area or yelling and behaving poorly while their parent is picking up a child.  We have to keep E.D. as orderly and safe as possible.

Times:

·        7:00 AM to 8:00 AM- absolutely not before 7:00 A.M.

·        2:45 PM to 6:00 PM- absolutely not after 6:00 P.M.

·        Parents will not be called due to bad weather. You must follow the school’s policy for a closing or delay of school.  Please DO NOT call my home.

NOTE:  THERE IS NO MORNING DAYCARE FOR DELAY OF SCHOOL DAYS.

NOTE:  THERE WILL BE DAYCARE ON THE 2:00 EARLY DISMISSAL DAYS ONLY.

Snack/Breakfast:

·        E.D. provides a free snack every afternoon or you may pack something for them.  We will have items such as fruit, cheese and crackers, bagels, ice cream, popsicles.  Also, we will sell pretzels, chips, pudding, applesauce, jello, etc. for a small fee.  Each child may bring their own drink (juice box/water, no pop, please).

·        E.D. will sell breakfast in the morning. Milk and juice are provided.

·       We really appreciate those of you who donate special treats for our Holiday parties.  Every little bit helps.  Birthday celebrations welcomed; just let us know.

Sick/Absent Days:

·        Please let us know soon after 7:00 AM if your child is sick or will not attend E.D. by calling

686-2728.    It is extremely important for us to know where your child is at all times.

·        Your child may not attend E.D. if they were not in school for the day.

·        No refund for absence due to illness or any other reason.

·        All specific days off for individual classes such as retreats, field trips, or just personal reasons, etc. are not payment free.  Again, if we are there, then salaries have to be paid and therefore you are not excused of payment.

PLAY CLOTHES:

·        Play clothes for afternoon only.

·        Please put your child’s name on everything.

·        Please discourage the children from bringing expensive toys from home. NO CELL PHONES.

ACTIVITIES:

·       Crafts, games, movies, story tellers, musical guests, parties for special occasions, gym time,a possible field trip, outdoor play.  The children will be expected to go outside every day for approximately one hour. (Weather permitting)

·       We make crafts and cards for the “shut-ins” of our parish almost every season.

SAFETY AND SIGN IN/OUT

·      Attendance is taken every day.  Children MUST come directly to E.D. at 2:45 p.m.  There will be serious consequences if they do not adhere to this rule.

·      It is extremely important that every child be signed in (a.m.) and out (p.m.) by a parent or designated person who has prior written permission.  No child will be allowed to leave otherwise. A staff member must be notified at the time if leaving.

·      Everyone must adhere to this rule in order to keep our children safe at all times.

·      Children are not allowed back in SNA classrooms after 2:45 PM to retrieve forgotten items. No Exceptions. Teachers do not permit this.

·      Once you have arrived to pick up your child, please do not bring your child back.  We discourage this because it gets too confusing if he/she is there or not.

·      We do not drop off or take kids to practices, games, or anything else during or after E.D. hours!!!

·      No pets at any time in the building.  It is against the Board of Health, and we also have the issue of safety to consider.

TELEPHONE:

·        Students will be permitted to use the phone at the discretion of the Director.

HOMEWORK:

·       We strongly advise that some homework be completed during E.D. hours for those that have been assigned.  However, as parents, you can request that your children do all their homework by writing a note to the Director.  3:00-4:00 is quiet time for those in need of that atmosphere.  4:00-6:00 is for those not bothered by the noise.

·       We have no way of knowing what your child’s assignments are for the day.  We will try our best to guide him/her through any problems they may have including their lessons.

            ●    Homework time will be right after snacks.

MEDICATION AND ACCIDENTS:

·        Staff members are not permitted to administer any kind of medicine at any time.

·       Only minor accidents (scrapes, bumps, etc.) can be attended to.

·       Parents will be notified immediately if anything serious occurs (such as a head injury).

·      If your child has a fever, becomes nauseated or has a bathroom accident you will be asked to pick them up promptly.

TAX INFORMATION:

 ·        Year-end statement provided UPON REQUEST ONLY.  E.D. is tax deductible.

NOTE:

·      We ask that you please pay on time for the benefit of our programs.   We are self supporting.  So when the fees aren’t met, the whole program will suffer.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this matter.

·       If ever you want to donate your time, a snack, or anything you think we could use, we would appreciate it.

·        Always open for suggestions.

ADDITIONAL STAFF:

·        Aides

·        Service hour candidates from area high schools, SNA Students and Parish Volunteers.

THANK YOU
